Ten months after they were driven Underground to escape a dangerously polluted planet, the inhabitants of Akaara have devolved into a chaotic and lawless society. Every day is a struggle, and the work needed to ensure the survival of the planet's population is endless. The only official form of relaxation and entertainment the population receives is in the form of the Novelty Circus.Forced into the Circus to survive amid a society that may otherwise kill them for being different, the crew of the Novelty Circus spends their days travelling Akaara and performing under the strict authority of the Ringmaster. Any hope of leading normal lives free of scrutiny has long since deserted the crew — until now, when rumours have begun to circulate about sightings of a mysterious being with knowledge of the ancient days, when the planet lived in harmony.In a desperate bid to escape the Ringmaster's brutality, the crew of the Novelty Circus flees to find this being; but their journey is a treacherous one, and far more important than any of them could have anticipated. New threats loom on the horizon even worse than the ones they left behind, and soon it won't just be a case of forging a new life for themselves, but for millions of others too.

Fun Fact: The Novelty Circus series features four different languages! These include English and three original alien tongues, two of which are listed here.
✶ AKAARIAN ✶
The native language of the archae and dreer.
Akaarian is an amalgamation of a number of ancient dialects that were fused to create one common tongue. Most of these ancient dialects have long since gone extinct.
After their arrival, the vrahl learnt Akaarian as a second language seeing as Vullïn, their mother-tongue, was almost impossible for Akaarans to pronounce.
The tone and lilt of speaking Akaarian is very similar to how English is pronounced.
✶ VULLÏN ✶
The native language of the vrahl.
Although it is possible for archae and dreer to learn to understand the dialect, it's impossible for them to replicate the sounds.
Composed of sharp clicks, chitters, grating growls, trills and hisses that only vrahl vocal chords can produce.
Completely devoid of vowels.
